Welcome to the 2015-2016 class BLOG!

What a great start to the school year we've had. I'm thoroughly enjoying my three days a week in the classroom with this lovely group of bright and enthusiastic first graders. My hope for this blog is that it serves as a springboard for conversations with your child about what they're learning and doing at school. Publishing their work is exciting and they should feel proud of themselves! Acknowledging and celebrating their learning and successes contributes greatly to their sense of self, their confidence and personal growth. I will endeavour to post weekly, so please bookmark the blog and check back regularly. Feel free to share the blog address with friends and family near and far as well! Photographs of artwork, projects, writing and special activities will be the focus. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me. Looking forward to a wonderful year!

One of our first cooperative projects was creating a nature inspired number line for our classroom. We read some beautiful fall books before venturing outdoors to scavenge for leaves, twigs and other delights. Our basket was full before long! We sorted the collection into piles and began to lay out the groundwork for our number line. Some children helped print the number words. Here's a peek!

All of the extra bits and pieces became part of our fall table. Children have been making their own 'leaf people' inspired by Lois Ehlert's popular picture book, Leaf Man.
